Anyone know if TiVo (and which one) will work on an 1080 HDTV without cable or satellite service?

We are trying like heck to avoid having to purchase "pay tv". I've heard TiVo can work with just an 1080 p HDTV. Is this correct? If so, do I have to buy a monthly service for it to work?

TIVO will certainly work with a 1080p TV. You would want to get a high def capable TIVO though and not an old Series 2 unit with an analog tuner.
